Gardener to Mr Walmersley of Ecton, Staffordshire, for one year (paid £10 plus food and maintenance). Subsequently married, and apparently remained in Staffordshire for three more years. Attempted to emigrate to Barbados via Liverpool, but seems to have died when their ship caught fire. Wife and daughter survived, and lived as vagrants in Lancashire.
