Sat as MP for Kirkwall in Scottish Parliament (1702-7), loyal to the Duke of Queensbury. Apparently unwilling to accept nomination to sit in the first Parliament of Great Britain. Elected MP, at by-election, for Tain (Northern) Burghs. Did not stand for re-election.<br />
