Matriculated from Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge (1664), graduating with a BA in 1669. Travelled on the continent and returned to England, settling permanently in 1670.
Private tutor to Colonel Charles Wheeler at Oxford. Ordained at Ely (1671), and moved to Kent the following year. Became a priest in London (1672) and became private chaplain to William, Lord Grey of Warke.
Brief sojourn in Ireland. Returned to England, where he became involved in a slander case, in which he won damages. Appointed perpetual curate of St James's, Duke Place London from 1685 until his death in 1700.
