At the age of eight was educated at Westminster, whilst father (Lord Mar) led the 1715 rebellion. Uncle [[Erskine, James]] introduced him to Walpole and Ilay and brought Thomas into parliament. MP for Stirling Burghs (1728-34), for Stirlingshire (1747). Voted with the administration in 1730 and 1732, but subsequently went into the opposition with his uncle. Elected MP for Clackmannanshire at the general election as a government suppoter (1747-54). Erskine did not stand for re-election. Died 1766.
