Baron Lynedoch. Entered Christ Church, Oxford (1766) but left in 1768 without taking a degree. When not touring the Continent, lived in Leicestershire, or residing in the Iberian peninsula for his wife's health.&lt;br /&gt;
Developed strong whig sympathies in the 1780s. Returned to Scotland in the 1790s and elected MP for Perth (1794-1803). &lt;br /&gt;
Rose through military ranks, holding a number of other posts, such as governor of Dunbarton Castle from 1829.&lt;br /&gt;
Died at his town house, 12 Stratton Street, Piccadilly, London (1843) and was buried in Scotland.&lt;/div&gt;</summary>
