Stood for Stirling Burgh on recommendation of Lord Ilay, being elected to the seat in 1734. Voted with the Administration. Did not stand for re-election in 1741.&lt;br /&gt;
Taken prisoner at battle of Prestonpans, though released. Left for North America (1754), taking part in the expedition against Fort Duquesne where he was killed in 1755.&lt;/div&gt;</summary>
