Minister of Athelstaneford, Haddington (1746).  First play, 'Agis' (1749), was a failure, but second 'Douglas' was well-received in Edinburgh (1756).  Resigned from the ministry and moved to London (1757).  Made private secretary to [[Stuart, John]], and tutor to the Prince of Wales.  Staged 'The Siege of Aquileia' in London (1760).  During Bute's brief ministry, Home used his position to bestow patronage on several Scottish friends,including David Hume.  Resigned as Bute's secretary (1763) and returned to writing, staging 'The Fatal Discovery' (1769), 'Alonzo' (1773) and 'Alfred' (1778).  Returned to Edinburgh (1779).  Published 'History of the Rebellion, 1745' (1802).&lt;/div&gt;</summary>
