Eldest daughter of William Murray, 1st earl of Dysart, and inherited the title upon her father's death.

After marriage, expected to settle into life of country domesticity. Rather, as an energetic and ambitious woman "held court" at Ham House, and included Oliver Cromwell amongst her guests.
