Military and political career owed to influence of his brother, Lord Seafield. Held family seat of Cullen in Scottish Parliament (1702) and consistently supported the Court. Rewarded through inclusion as representative to first Parliament of Great Britain. &lt;br /&gt;
Elected MP for Elgin Burghs but was a relatively inactive parliamentarian though continued as a Court supporter. &lt;br /&gt;
