Schoolmaster at Scarborough for several years before having his position challenged before the diocese of York.  Claimed to have been teaching without leave, to be ill-educated and to be 'a person of a sawcy, proud and rude Carryage and addresse'.  Received support from some members of the local community, who in a petition defended his skills and experience.&lt;/div&gt;</summary>
