He fought as a Royalist, and was captured after battle of Worcester (1651). Found employment teaching Greek at Whitefriars school, London, thanks to intercession of Edward Bysshe, MP for Bletchingley. Wrote a number of scholarly tracts in 1650s. Upon Restoration of Charles II in 1660, he re-entered Oxford and gained his MA. Served successively as chaplain to Lord George Douglas' regiment of foot, the Duke of Lauderdale and the Scottish regiments in France. Rector of Middleton Tyas, Yorkshire (1673).</div>
