Went to England shortly after being licensed (1666), and was ordained by a dissenting community in London (1669).  Went to India (c.1674), where he officiated at Fort St George, Madras.  Returned to Scotland (1677), and became involved with the dissenting community there.  Suffered several bout of exile, principally in the Dutch Republic, before becoming minister of Irvine (1688).
