Educated at school of Dornoch and then at University of St. Andrews. Entered service of James VI and rose in favour. Knighted in 1609.

Left Scotland when he was very young, and moved with his parents to Sunderland, where his father worked as a mason. After about 7 years his father died, and he travelled around England with his mother, who sold hardware. Married about 2 years ago, and rents a house in Bishop Auckland for 15s a year. Has gained no settlement since birth. Examination
Married in London. Returned to Scotland and unknown date where he spent majority of life. Died at Gordonstown and buried at Drainie.
