Fourth son of John Haldane of Gleneagles. Entered at Middle Temple, 1 June 1727. Later entered sea service of the East India Company where he made his fortune. Returned and succeeded his nephew as MP for Stirling Burghs (1758). Sought re-election on a number of occasions but was unsuccessful. Died 1767.
