Master of grammar schools at Montrose and Dundee (1597). Minister of Guthrie (1599) and Dundee (1605). Bishop of Brechin (1619) and Edinburgh (1634). Crowned Charles I during his Scottish coronation (1633). Narrowly avoided injury during prayer book riots (1637), and deposed by General Assembly (1638). Fled to England, where he died.
