Graduated MD at University of Edinburgh in 1750. Became licentiate of the Royal College of Physicians in 1766. Brisbane held post of physician to the Middlesex Hospital, London, 1758-1773 - superseded for being absent without leave and name disappears from the college list in 1776. Author of 'Select Cases in the Practice of Medicine' (1772) and 'Anatomy of Painting: with an Introduction Giving a Short View of Picturesque Anatomy' (1769)
