7th Earl of Argyll, nicknamed ‘Gruamach’ (the Grim). Enjoyed a long military career. Fell in and out of royal favour. Spent majority of life in England, although there were periods where Campbell returned to Scotland. Proclaimed a traitor in 1618 for travelling to the Spanish Netherlands and converting to Catholicism. Restored to royal favour within two years and granted permission to return to Britain. Returned to London where Campbell retired and died in 1638. Had married 2nd wife, Anne at church of St. Botolph, Bishopsgate
