Earl of Holdernesse. Spent majority of life at court of James VI. Maintained links with Scotland, appointed between 1610-23 to various commissions for peace for the constabulary of Haddington. Raised to Peerage (1606) as iscount Haddington and Lord Ramsay of Barns. Died London 1626 and buried in Westminster Abbey.
