Third Earl of Rosebery. Migrated to London to pursue mercantile career but upon deaths of father and elder brother succeeded to earldom (1755). Travelled on continent then returned to Britain in the 1760s. Elected elected one of Representative Peers for Scotland (1768). Primrose was created a Knight of the Order of the Thistle (1771). Died in Scotland.
