First Earl of Dunmore. Most Anglicized son of the family. Appointed lieutenant-colonel of Scots Greys dragoons (1681). MP for Wigan (1685). Suspected of fomenting highland revolt and imprisoned in Edinburgh Castle (1689-90). Upon release retreated to England until 1700. Settled in Chester c.1696. Died at Holyrood Palace 1710.
