First Earl of Traquair. Created Lord of Parliament (1628). Elevated to earldom for services to Charles II (1633). Travelled to London in 1636 and promoted to lord high treasurer. In 1648 Traquair raised a troop of horse for the ‘Engagement’ but taken prisoner at battle of Preston. He was imprisoned in Warwick Castle between 1648-52.
