Fifth earl of Carnwath. Educated at University of Cambridge. Joined in 1715 Jacobite rising and was part of the surrender at Preston in November 1715. Imprisoned in Tower of London and pleaded guilty, though threw himself at the king's mercy. Pardoned under the Act of Indemnity (1717). Returned to Scotland and died at Kirkmichael, Dumfriesshire (1737).
