Lieutenant and Brigadier in the Life Guards. Transferred from the Life Guards to the deputy governorship of Stirling Castle (c.1715). Removed during purge of Argyll's supporters in 1717. One of the Scottish MPs in the first Parliament of Great Britain (1707-08). Most faithful of Argyll's Campbell dependents in the Commons. Only one of Argyll's dependents to support the bill to complete teh Union. Elected, unopposed, in each general election as MP for Argyllshire 1708-34. Often listen as a Tory, he was enough of a Whig at times. Reward for steady support of Argyll came in 1734 in form of appointment to the office of muster master for Scotland. Elected MP for Stirlingshire 1734-41. Died at Gargunnock 1752.
