Accompanied King James to Scotland and spent majority of lifetime at court. Retained strong links with Scotland, particularly between 1610-23 when appointed to commissions for the peace for the constabulary of Haddington. Raised to peerage with title of Viscount Haddington and Lord Ramsay of Barns (1606). Travelled to Scotland with James though seems to have remained after the king's departure (1617-19). In 1619 seems to have retired from court and settled in France. Two years later, made baron of Kingston and earl of Holdernesse.
Brother of Ramsay, James (London) and Ramsay, David (London) 1
