‘Town and County of Kingston upon Hull The Examination Robert Tate (Touching his Settlement and Vagrancy) taken upon Oath the Thirtyeth Day of November 1742. Before William Ashmole Esquire one of his majestys Justices of the Peace of and for the said Town and County This Examinant on his Oath saith he was Born in the Parish of Cannongate at Edenborough in North Britain and that he hath not gained a Settlement since his his Birth and that he and Mary his Wife came to the Town of Kingston upon Hull aforesaid where he stood in the street and received alms Taken upon Oath before me… Wm.
