Educated at Cambridge after graduating MA from St Andrews (1608). Consecrated deacon and priest in the Church of England (1614). Vicar of Harston (1614) and Waterbeach (1615), both in Cambridgeshire. Professor of Divinity at St Andrews (1617). Returned to England, becoming prebenrary of Ely Cathedral, Cambridgeshire (1626), and Whitechurch, Somerset (1631), vicar of Fulbourn All Saints, Cambridgeshire (1626) and rector of Compton, Hampshire (1627). Bishop of Dunblane (1636), but deposed (1638) and returned to England, dying at Canterbury.
