Eldest son of Bishop of Orkney. Educated abroad. Held various positions in Scotland. Gained favour and esteem of James VI and accompanied him to England. Between 1604-5 held position of a Commissioner of Parliament. Raised to peerage as Lord Holyroodhouse. Died 1609
