Eighth earl of Kinnoull and Viscount Dupplin. Became MP for Fowey in Cornwall (1710). Detained in London during 1715 rising on suspicion of Stuart loyalties (1715-17). Served as British ambassador to Constantinople (1729-37). Died in Ashford, Yorkshire and buried there (1758).
