Ninth earl of Kinnoull. Educated at Westminster School and Christ Church, Oxford. Married at Oxford Chapel, Marylebone. Became MP for Cambridge (1741). Adept at fiscal affairs and frequently involved in government financial matters in the city of London. Appointed Commissioner of trade (1746), Lord of the Treasury (1754), Chancellor of the duchy of Lancaster and privy councillor (1758) Returned to Scotland c.1768, committed himself to public works. Died at Dupplin in 1787.
