Fourth earl of Linlithgow. First commissioned captain of the Scots foot guards (1668). Participated in a number of engagements against the covenanters. September 1668, marched into England with army to reinforce James II - at Salisbury Plain. Retired along Thames towards London. Returned to Scotland where he died 1695.
