Nineteenth, or third, Earl of Mar. Admitted to Grey's Inn (1603). MA Oxford (1605). Created knight of the Bath (1610) and was member of the Privy Council in 1615. Appointed Governor of Edinburgh Castle (1615) and returned to Scotland. Changed political allegiances but influenced by financial affairs.
