First Lord Melville. Travelled a great deal between England and Scotland as served in English court since 1560s. Accompanied James VII to England in 1603. Remained at court for about a year when he received a warrant dispensing with his attendance at the Council and Exchequer due to age, sickness & infirmity. Melville returned to Scotland but continued to enjoy royal favour until his death in 1621.
