Third Marquis of Montrose. Educated at University of Glasgow. Completed education in France. Upon return to London became a court favourite of Charles II. Received commission as captain of a troop of horse in Duke of York’s regiment (1678). Was at Battle of Bothwell Bridge (1679). Resided chiefly at Canongate, where he died of fever (1684).
