Seventeenth Earl of Sutherland. Began education in Edinburgh, then sent to school at Winchester before moving to Harrow. In 1750 Sutherland was sent to private school at Enfield. Given commission in Royal Scots. Was present at the coronation of George III (1761). Travelled with wife to Bath in 1766 where he was taken ill and died. Sutherland was buried in Scotland.
