Fourth Duke of Argyll (1761). Groom of Bedchamber to George II (1714-61). Enjoyed long military career, rising through the ranks. Entered parliament in the general election of 1713 and gained seat as MP for Buteshire (1713-15). Then continued in parliament as MP for Elgin Burghs (1715-22, 1725-7) and Dunbartonshire (1727-61). Listed as a Hanoverian - a Whig. Died 1770.
