At the age of eight was educated at Westminster, whilst father (Lord Mar) led the 1715 rebellion. Uncle Erskine, James introduced him to Walpole and Ilay and brought Thomas into parliament. MP for Stirling Burghs (1728-34), for Stirlingshire (1747). Voted with the administration in 1730 and 1732, but subsequently went into the opposition with his uncle. Elected MP for Clackmannanshire at the general election as a government suppoter (1747-54). Erskine did not stand for re-election. Died 1766.
