Sat in Scottish parliament though seems to have been a passive participant, though tended to vote with the court. Selected to represent Scotland in the first Parliament of Great Britain (1707-8). Re-entered parliament as MP for Cromartyshire (1710-13). Left little trace in records of the House. Does not appear to be directly involved in general election of 1715. Returned as MP for Cromartyshire (1727-28) when he died in September 1728. His son Mackenzie, George (London) 2 succeeded to the parliamentary seat.
