Lord Provost Edinburgh (1760-2). Elected, instead of Argyll's candidate, as MP for Edinburgh (1761). Shortly after taking his seat, offered post as conservator of Scottish privileges in the Netherlands (1762-3). Thus left parliament to take up new post. Died 1763.
