Held municipal offices in city of Glasgow. Elected MP for Glasgow Burghs. Active as a Whig during time in Parliament. Re-elected 1713, and classified as a Hanoverian. Re-elected again in 1715, enjoying support of both the Duke of Argyll and Duke of Montrose. Died 1716.
