During the Fifteen sent by his kinsman, the Earl of Sutherland, to London to apply for assistance - returned with a lieutenant-general’s commission for Sutherland, £100 sterling, and a thousand stand of arms. Elected MP for Inverness Burghs (1722) but unseated in October on petition. Died 1753.
