Lord Fortrose. Had considerable influence in Ross-shire, Inverness-shire and Inverness Burghs which he placed at the disposal of the Government. Gained seat in Parliament with the help of Lord Ilay, first as MP for Inverness Burghs (1741-7) then Ross-shire (1747-61). Actively fought against the rebels in 1745. Died 1761.
