Lairds of Balmain sat in Scottish Parliament from 1609-63 gaining considerable local influence. Ramsay gained seat in Scottish Parliament as MP for Kincardineshire (1705-7) voting between Court and Country. Must have been classes as a courtier in some circles as included as representative to first Parliament of Great Britain. Re-elected to represent Kincardineshire at Westminster (1708-10). Died from a fall of his horse in 1710.
