Captain of the 21 Foot (1744-55), Lord Lieutenant Kincardine (1746-65). Became male heir of Southesk family. Elected to Parliament as a Walpole Whig. After Walpole's fall, continued to support Administration, connected with Lord Ilay though on friendly terms with Tweeddale. Served in Holland (1748-9). Continued to support the Government until death in 1765.
