Captain of the 21 Foot (1744-55), Lord Lieutenant Kincardine (1746-65). Became male heir of Southesk family. Elected to Parliament as a Walpole Whig. After Walpole's fall, continued to support Administration, connected with Campbell, Archibald (London) 1 though on friendly terms with Hay, John (London) 1. Served in Holland (1748-9). Continued to support the Government until death in 1765.
