Captain in Alexander Grants regiment (1708-13). Rose to rank of Lord-lieutenant. Elected MP for Nairnshire, for family's interest, and in Ross-shire for the Mackenzie faction (1708). On petition, his return for Ross-shire was declared void, though Rose continued to sit for Nairnshire. Did not stand for re-election in 1710. Politically loyal to the Hanoverian succession, participated in the Fifteen. Returned to Parliament for Nairnshire (1734-41). Died 1755.
