Sat in Scottish Parliament for Orkney and Shetland. Supported the Court after 1707. Knighted and given seat in first Parliament of Great Britain (1707-8). Elected MP for Orkney and Shetland (1708) but cost of attending Parliament was prohibitive. Probably attended in 1710 though absent in subsequent years. Did not stand for re-election. Dubbed a courtier in both Scottish and Westminster parliaments. Died 1718.
