Educated at Westminster (1734-6) and at Doddridge’s Academy in Northampton 1737-?). Staunch Presbyterian and Hanoverian. Returned to Ross-shire after Culloden to help round up rebel Mackenzies and supply lists of the disaffected. Elected MP for Ross-shire (1746-47). Exchanged Ross-shire seat for Tain Burghs in 1747. Retired from Parliament in 1761. Died 1781.
