Travelled to England to meet Isaac Newton, Flamsteed and Halley. Appointed Chair of Astronomy at Oxford, at recommendation of Newton (1691). Mathematics tutor to William, duke of Gloucester (1699). Elected an honorary fellow of the Edinburgh College of Physicians (1705). Published a number of mathematical papers. Moved to London in 1704, residing at St John's Street, Long Ditch, Westminster. With Newton's help (again) secured a post as overseer of the Scottish mint (1707). Although happily settled in England, continued to follow, and participate in, Scottish politics. Visited every summer. Died at Maidenhed, en route from Bath to London (1708).
