11th Earl of Eglintoun. After attending grammar school in Scotland, continued education at: Eton College (1738-41). Winchester (1741), and at private schools in Berwick and London (1742-3). Montgomerie then joined army where he rose through the ranks. Elected MP for Ayrshire in 1761 but defeated in election of 1768. Made governor of Dumbarton Castle (1764). Died 1796.
