Eldest daughter of William Murray, 1st earl of Dysart, and inherited the title upon her father's death.
After marriage, expected to settle into life of country domesticity. Rather, as an energetic and ambitious woman "held court" at Ham House, and included Oliver Cromwell amongst her guests. Would help provide a cover for Lady Elizabeth's royalist activities. Carried out espionage (as member of the Sealed Knot) and covert correspondence with exiled supporters of Charles II. With second marriage, Lady Elizabeth's influence grew. Lived in both England and Scotland - resided in either Edinburgh or Thirlestane Castle. Died 1698 and buried at Petersham church.
